Everything you need to get started with Dividends Declared.
Quick Start
Welcome to Dividends Declared! Here's how to get started tracking your dividend income in under 2 minutes.
1
Add your first holding
Click the "Add Holding" button in the top right corner. Enter the stock symbol (e.g., AAPL, JNJ, O) and the number of shares you own.
2
See your projected income
Once you add a holding, you'll immediately see your projected annual dividend income. This is calculated based on the company's current dividend rate and your share count.
3
Check your calendar
Visit the Calendar tab to see when your dividends will be paid. Each entry shows the ex-date (when you need to own shares) and the pay date (when you'll receive the dividend).
Adding Holdings
To add a new holding, you need:
Stock symbol β The ticker symbol (e.g., AAPL for Apple)
Number of shares β How many shares you own
Cost basis (optional) β What you paid per share, used to calculate yield on cost
We automatically look up the current dividend information for the stock, including the dividend amount, frequency, and upcoming dates.
Understanding Dividend Dates
There are several important dates in the dividend process:
Date
Description
Declaration Date
When the company announces the dividend
Ex-Dividend Date
You must own shares before this date to receive the dividend
Record Date
The company checks who owns shares (usually 1 day after ex-date)
Pay Date
When the dividend is deposited into your account
Important: If you buy shares on or after the ex-date, you will NOT receive the upcoming dividend. Make sure to buy before the ex-date!
Dividend Calendar
The calendar shows all your upcoming dividend events:
Ex-dates
Marked in amber. Action required before this date to receive the dividend.
Pay dates
Marked in green. Money incoming!
You can filter the calendar by portfolio or by specific stock to focus on what matters to you.
Income Projections
Your dashboard shows your projected annual dividend income. This is calculated by:
1Taking each holding's dividend per share
2Multiplying by the number of payments per year
3Multiplying by your share count
4Summing across all holdings
The projection automatically updates when companies announce dividend changes.
